We know people love their Mitsubishi vehicles, but it wasn't until we received a letter from Howard D. that we knew exactly how much. To Howard, Mitsubishi is more than the stylish car that drives him wherever he needs to go, it's a lifestyle. From his trips to Mitsubishi dealerships in Japan to his huge collection of assorted Mitsubishi goods, Howard is Mitsubishi's number one fan and owner of two Mitsubishis — a black 1989 Starion ESi-R and a graphite grey pearl 2006 Lancer Evolution. The discovery of Mitsubishi in a car magazine in 1985 led to a lifetime of devotion:
"I read the article which also included a brief history… I was fascinated by the car, the looks, the performance and its attitude. I love history, and Mitsubishi's humble beginnings were just as interesting to me as their cars. On December 12, 1988, I finally owned a Mitsubishi… a black, 1989 Mitsubishi Starion ESi-R! It is my dream car! I own it to this day! It resides in my heated and air-conditioned Mitsubishi ‘Garage-Museum'! I never started collecting Mitsubishi items so that someone would pat me on the back or recognize me. The company is just something that I truly believe in."
"My family and I go to Japan once every two or three years… my first stop is a different Mitsubishi dealership. I ask them for their Mitsubishi business card(s) and add them to my collection. Over the years and many trips to Japan, I have acquired many Mitsubishi items that I am very proud of and lucky to own… brochures in all languages, watches, clocks, pens, pins, posters, factory uniforms, racing suits, autographs from workers, rally drivers' photo-signed cards, business cards, scale models, books, signs, calculators… literally anything that has the three-diamond logo on it!"
And when it comes to the Mitsubishi cars themselves, Howard has only one thing to say: "I have NO intention of ever selling these two cars, only adding to them with other Mitsubishi cars."
