After decades of pushing vehicles to their limits on the World Rally circuit, our engineers have learned a thing or two about what it takes to keep drivers safe. For the high-performance Lancer Evolution, they have engineered a full complement of active and passive safety systems designed to help keep you out of harm's way when driving on terrain that can be just as treacherous: your local streets and highways.
The Lancer Evolution offers standard advanced dual-stage front SRS airbags*, driver and passenger side-impact airbags*, and front and rear side-curtain airbags* on all Lancer models. Sensors evaluate the deceleration during an impact, the position of the driver's seat, and the weight on the front passenger's seat to provide the appropriate level of front airbag* deployment. A first-in-segment feature, the Lancer Evolution's standard driver's side knee airbag* helps to prevent injury by stabilizing the legs and lower body of the driver in certain frontal collisions.
ABS technology helps to eliminate wheel lock-up during panic or emergency braking. Wheel speed is monitored and braking pressure is optimized when impending wheel lock-up is sensed. The system "pulses” the brakes up to 10 times per second, modulating wheel rotation, to help eliminate lock-up and maximize driver control.
The reinforced impact safety evolution (RISE) body enhances the protection of drivers and passengers. In the event of a collision, efficient energy absorption and high cabin integrity are important. RISE achieves both and helps to protect from all directions, including front, side, and rear collisions.
Lower anchors and tethers for children (LATCH) help simplify the attachment of child safety seats; making it easier for you to help keep your child safe.
The ASC* (Active Stability Control) system is designed to help maintain and control the lateral movement of the Lancer Evolution during difficult driving conditions. It uses sensors that check your speed, and monitor how the vehicle is responding to your steering input. Bottom line? ASC simplifies steering for the driver by applying braking pressure to the wheel that is slipping and, if necessary, cutting down the engine throttle to help you maintain control.
Every Mitsubishi is equipped with three-point seatbelts and head restraints, plus front seatbelt pretensioners that are designed to help tighten the belts in certain frontal impacts so the seatbelts can better do their job. Seatbelt force limiters, which help the front seatbelts and airbags† work together optimally, are also standard on every Lancer.
