The standard-issue charger is our portable charging cable, which plugs into common 120V household outlets to produce a full charge in about 22.5 hours. For faster charging, we also offer EVSE home charging docks from Eaton and AeroVironment (requires installation) that can fully charge your i-MiEV in about 7 hours. Plus, your i-MiEV can be equipped with an optional public quick-charger port that connects to CHAdeMO Level 3 public chargers to deliver an 80% charge in as little as 30 minutes.




Because of their expertise, we've partnered with AeroVironment to offer convenient home inspections. This required inspection will determine if your home's electrical system can efficiently charge the i-MiEV battery using the included 120V cable.¹ To schedule your home inspection, simply contact AeroVironment at 866-732-3219 or visit their charging portal website.


During your home inspection, we can also determine if your garage can be equipped with the optional—and highly recommended—EVSE home charging dock. These super-fast wall-mounted 240V units not only transform your garage into your own personal refueling station, they can charge the i-MiEV in as little as 7 hours.

One of the first questions people tend to have about batteries for electric cars is "how long will they last?" Because of our significant investment in battery technology over the years since the first EVs appeared, we can confidently back our power source with an 8-year/100,000-mile limited warranty.² We think that's a pretty good answer.



The custom-made battery pack on the ES trim of the
i-MiEV features a fan-driven, forced-air induction system that automatically engages to protect the battery from overheating during charging. Drivers can upgrade to the Premium Package, which also gives drivers the ability to charge the i-MiEV using public quick-chargers. Because quick-chargers can tend to heat batteries and reduce their efficiency in the long term, we've added an air-cooling system that draws cold air from the air conditioning unit to keep the battery nice and cool, even in hot climates.
Throughout 40 years of EV innovation at Mitsubishi, safety has always been a top priority, and our i-MiEV battery reflects this commitment. It rests safely and securely beneath a sealed stainless-steel case, offering protection from the elements. It's located just beneath the floorboard for ideal weight distribution. And because it's mounted squarely to the unibody, it helps keep you (and it) safe in a collision. So now you can drive assured.
While some electric vehicles adapt third-party battery technology, ours is Mitsubishi all the way. To ensure world-class performance, we initiated a joint venture called Lithium Energy Japan to engineer a high-performance lithium-ion electric car battery specifically for the i-MiEV. The result is our custom 16 kWh battery pack that delivers everything you need: a long air-cooled life, responsive power, fast charging and great range. Thanks to our advanced electric car technology, we can back our battery with an 8-year/100,000-mile limited warranty.
