The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) awarded Lancer the highest rating for front and rear-impact safety for many reasons. Including the extensive use of high-tension steel in the RISE body for increased rigidity, crumple zones for collision safety, a seven-airbag† safety system, and anti-lock brakes with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution* to help ensure that drivers stay in control. It all goes to prove that when it comes to keeping drivers and passengers safe, the 2013 Lancer is clearly different for a reason.
This coveted IIHS award recognizes vehicles that best protect their occupants. And the process is grueling. Vehicles are rated in four different types of collisions: front, side, rollover and rear. Even the seats and head restraints are crash tested and evaluated. It's just another reason to make the Lancer your top pick.
The Lancer offers standard advanced dual-stage front SRS airbags, driver and passenger side-impact airbags and front and rear side-curtain airbags on all Lancer models.† Sensors evaluate the deceleration during an impact, the position of the driver's seat, and the weight on the front passenger's seat to provide the appropriate level of front airbag deployment. A first-in-segment feature, Lancer's standard driver's side knee airbag helps to prevent injury by stabilizing the legs and lower body of the driver in certain frontal collisions.†
Active Stability Control (ASC)‡ is a system that is designed to help maintain and control the lateral movement of the Lancer during difficult driving conditions. It uses sensors that check your speed, and measure how Lancer is responding to your steering input. The bottom line? ASC simplifies vehicle maneuvers for the driver by applying braking pressure to the wheel that is slipping and, if necessary, cutting down the engine throttle to help you maintain control of your vehicle.
The Anti-lock Braking System (ABS)‡ technology used by Lancer helps to eliminate wheel lock-up during panic or emergency braking. Wheel speed is monitored and braking pressure is optimized when impending wheel lock-up is sensed. The system “pulses” the brakes up to ten times per second, modulating wheel rotation to help eliminate lock-up and maximize driver control.
The RISE (Reinforced Impact Safety Evolution) body construction greatly enhances passenger protection. In the event of a collision, efficient energy absorption and high cabin integrity are important. RISE achieves these features and enhances its collision safety performance from all directions, including front, side and rear impact collisions.
The Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children (LATCH) system helps simplify the attachment of child safety seats, making it easier for you to help keep your child safe.
Every Mitsubishi is equipped with three-point seat belts and head restraints, plus front seat belt pretensioners that are designed to help tighten the belts in certain frontal impacts so the seat belts can better do their job. Seat belt force limiters, which help the front seat belts and airbags† work together optimally, are also standard on every Lancer.
