After decades of pushing vehicles to their logical limits on the world rally circuit, our engineers have learned a thing or two about what it takes to keep drivers safe in the most critical of situations. These lessons, combined with a long history of research and development, informed the design of the Outlander Sport. In it, you'll find a full complement of world-class active and passive safety systems.
In some ways, it's the most beautiful part of the interior. Mitsubishi's seven-airbag* system includes dual advanced front airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact air curtains and a driver's knee airbag. A recent innovation, the driver's knee airbag helps to reduce the risk of injury by stabilizing the legs and lower body of the driver during certain types of impact. It's quite advanced. And merely one of the seven airbags that make up this sophisticated safety system.
Yet another standard safety feature, Active Stability Control (ASC)† employs a series of sensors that constantly monitor tire grip on the road. Should the wheels begin to slip, the ASC system works in concert with the Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS) to apply the brakes intelligently as needed to each wheel, giving you the ultimate sense of control.
Mitsubishi's electrically controlled All-Wheel Control (AWC) system engages an onboard computer that monitors throttle, vehicle speed and road condition—and makes split-second adjustments to help maximize control in any weather. Plus you can switch between 2WD, 4WD, and LOCK drive modes while on the go.
The Outlander Sport's Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS) is a study in technology. ABS helps eliminate wheel lock-up by monitoring the speed of each individual wheel, then adjusting the braking pressure as needed. When impending lock-up is sensed, ABS sends rapid brake pulses to the wheels in need, dramatically reducing the chance of a skid on any terrain.
The Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children (LATCH) system simplifies the attachment of child safety seats, making it easier for you to help keep your child safe.
Every Mitsubishi is equipped with three-point seat belts and head restraints, along with front seat belt pretensioners that are designed to help tighten the belts in certain frontal impacts and rollovers so the seat belts can better do their job. Seat belt force limiters, which help the front seat belts and airbags* work together optimally, are also standard on every Outlander Sport.
Even though we hope you never have to take advantage of Mitsubishi's 5 years/unlimited miles of roadside assistance, it's good to know it's there for you in case you do. And now we've made getting the help you need even easier with our free Roadside Assistance App for iPhone. Available at no charge from the iTunes App Store, this handy app provides easy access to immediate roadside help in case you ever need assistance for a flat tire, jumpstart or if you get locked out of your car. We'll even deliver fuel if you run out or tow you to the nearest dealer. This is one of the most important apps you can have on your iPhone, so download it today!
