2012 Lancer Sportback

The Lancer Sportback has been named a 2012 IIHS “Top Safety Pick.” In addition to a tried-and-true foundation, the Lancer Sportback offers a full complement of active and passive safety features: Seven airbags an Active Stability Control system that constantly monitors available traction between the tires and the road, and HID headlamps that clearly illuminate the curves ahead. Just to name a few.

Seven Airbag System
The Lancer Sportback offers standard advanced dual-stage front SRS airbags, driver and passenger side-impact airbags, and front and rear side-curtain airbags on all Lancer models. Sensors evaluate the deceleration during an impact, the position of the driver's seat, and the weight on the front passenger's seat to provide the appropriate level of front airbag deployment. A standard driver's side knee airbag helps to prevent injury by stabilizing the legs and lower body of the driver in certain frontal collisions.
Anti-Lock Brakes (ABS) with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD)
The ABS technology used by Lancer Sportback helps to eliminate wheel lock-up during panic or emergency braking. Wheel speed is monitored and braking pressure is optimized when impending wheel lock-up is sensed. The system “pulses” the brakes up to 10 times per second, modulating wheel rotation to help eliminate lock-up and maximize driver control.
RISE (Reinforced Impact Safety Evolution) Body
The Lancer Sportback's Reinforced Impact Safety Evolution (RISE) body is designed to help provide added protection in a collision. With the extensive use of high-tensile-strength steel, the frame packs extra reinforcement in the areas where it matters most. By reinforcing critical areas, the RISE body is your friend should you find yourself in a collision. This reinforcement is complemented by energy-absorbing crumple zones that help dissipate energy in an impact—providing that much more protection when you need it most.
LATCH System
Lower anchors and tethers for children (LATCH) help simplify the attachment of child safety seats; making it easier for you to help keep your child safe.
Active Stability Control (ASC)
The ASC (Active Stability Control) system is designed to help maintain and control the lateral movement of the Lancer Sportback during difficult driving conditions. It uses sensors that check your speed, and monitor how the Lancer Sportback is responding to your steering input. Bottom line? ASC simplifies vehicle maneuvers for the driver by applying braking pressure to the wheel that is slipping and, if necessary, cutting down the engine throttle to help you maintain control.
Seatbelts and Pretensioners
Every Mitsubishi is equipped with three-point seatbelts and head restraints, plus front seatbelt pretensioners that are designed to help tighten the belts in certain frontal impacts so the seatbelts can better do their job. Seatbelt force limiters, which help the front seatbelts and airbags work together optimally, are also standard on every Lancer.
