2013 Lancer Sportback

The Lancer Sportback is built on the same tried-and-true foundation as the Lancer sedan, and likewise has been named an IIHS "Top Safety Pick". To bolster its claim as one of the safest cars you can buy, the Lancer Sportback offers a full complement of active and passive safety features, including seven airbags, an Active Stability Control (ASC) system that constantly monitors available traction between the tires and the road, and available HID headlamps that clearly illuminate the curves ahead, just to name a few.

Seven-Airbag System
The Lancer Sportback offers standard advanced dual-stage front SRS airbags, driver and passenger side-impact airbags, and front and rear side-curtain airbags on all Lancer Sportback models. Sensors evaluate the deceleration during an impact, the position of the driver's seat, and the weight on the front passenger's seat to provide the appropriate level of front airbag deployment. Additionally, a standard driver's side knee airbag helps to prevent injury by stabilizing the legs and lower body of the driver in certain types of frontal collisions.
Anti-Lock Braking System with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution
The Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) technology used by the Lancer Sportback helps to eliminate wheel lock-up during panic or emergency braking. Wheel speed is monitored and braking pressure is optimized when impending wheel lock-up is sensed. Whenever this occurs, the system "pulses" the brakes several times per second, modulating wheel rotation to help eliminate lock-up and maximize driver control.
RISE Body Construction
The Lancer Sportback's RISE (Reinforced Impact Safety Evolution) body is designed to help provide added protection in the event of a collision. With the extensive use of high-tensile-strength steel, the frame adds extra reinforcement to the areas where it matters most. This reinforcement is complemented by energy-absorbing crumple zones that help dissipate energy in an impact, providing even more protection when you need it most.
LATCH System
The Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children (LATCH) system helps simplify the attachment of child safety seats, making it easier for you to help keep your child safe.
Active Stability Control
The Active Stability Control (ASC) system is designed to help maintain and control the lateral movement of the Lancer during difficult driving conditions. It uses sensors that check your speed and monitor how your Lancer Sportback responds to steering input. The bottom line? ASC simplifies vehicle maneuvers for the driver by applying braking pressure to the wheel that is slipping and, if necessary, cutting down the engine throttle to help you maintain control of your vehicle.
Seat Belts and Pretensioners
Every Mitsubishi is equipped with three-point seat belts and head restraints, plus front seat belt pretensioners that are designed to help tighten the belts during certain frontal impacts so they can do their job better. Seat belt force limiters, which help the front seat belts and airbags work together optimally, are also standard on every Lancer Sportback.
