Safety and Warranty

2011 Eclipse Spyder

Sometimes the things that make a high-performance car are the same things that make it a safe car. A rigid platform. An advanced anti-lock braking system and Active Stability Control. A sure-footed, nimble-handling vehicle. An advanced airbag system. Eclipse Spyder is a unique vehicle that satisfies both your driving passions and your safety needs.

Advanced Airbag System*
Eclipse Spyder’s advanced front airbag safety system includes front-seat-mounted side-impact airbags for the driver and front seat passenger. The result is a convertible that helps maximize occupant safety. It’s good to know that having the wind in your hair is safer than ever before.
Anti-Lock Brakes (ABS) with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD)
The ABS system in Eclipse Spyder helps to eliminate wheel lock-up during panic or emergency braking. Wheel speed is monitored and braking pressure is optimized when impending wheel lock-up is sensed. The system “pulses” the brakes, modulating wheel rotation to help eliminate lock-up and maximize driver control.
Reinforced Chassis
The Eclipse Spyder platform is reinforced in key locations using high-strength steel. Additional cross members in the dash area and cabin floor help maintain cabin rigidity in the event of a side collision. The side sills are also reinforced, along with front and rear sub-frame components, which help minimize deformation due to an offset front impact.
Active Stability Control (ASC)
Standard on all Spyders, Active Stability Control (ASC) helps by working with the ABS system and engine management to manage power delivery to the front wheels. Together they help keep Spyder on the driver’s intended path in challenging driving conditions.
Seatbelts and Pretensioners

Every Mitsubishi is equipped with three-point seatbelts and head restraints, plus front seatbelt pretensioners that are designed to help tighten the belts in certain frontal impacts so the seatbelts can better do their job. Seatbelt force limiters that help the front seatbelts and airbags* work together optimally are also standard on every Spyder.
