High performance demands high-quality safety. A rigid platform; an advanced anti-lock braking system; an advanced airbag system…they all come together in a sure-footed, nimble convertible built to stoke driving passions and satisfy your security needs.
Eclipse Spyder’s advanced front airbag safety system includes front-seat-mounted head/thorax side-impact airbags for the driver and front seat passenger. All are standard and each is positioned, based on extensive crash testing and simulation, to deliver enhanced safety in case of impact.
The ABS technology employed by the Eclipse Spyder helps to eliminate wheel lock-up during panic or emergency braking. Wheel speed is monitored and braking pressure is optimized when impending lock-up is sensed. The system “pulses” the brakes up to 10 times per second, modulating wheel rotation to help maximize driver control.
The Eclipse Spyder platform is reinforced with high-strength steel - as are the side sills and front and rear frame components - helping minimize deformation due to an offset front impact. Additional cross members in the dash area and cabin floor help maintain cabin rigidity in the event of a side collision.
Standard on all Spyders, Active Stability Control (ASC)† monitors traction between the tires and the road. Working with the ABS system and engine management to regulate power delivery to the front wheels, it helps keep the Eclipse Spyder on the driver's intended path in challenging driving conditions.
Every Eclipse Spyder is equipped with three-point seatbelts, head restraints, and seatbelt force limiters that help the front seatbelts and airbags* work together seamlessly. As an additional safety measure, front seatbelt pretensioners are designed to help tighten the belts in certain frontal impacts.
