MiEV Evolution II

A completely new design from the ground up, the MiEV Evolution II features a unique four-motor drivetrain (two front/two rear) based on a modified high-output version of the production Mitsubishi i-MiEV street-legal electric vehicle motor, a tube-frame chassis, a redesigned version of Mitsubishi Motors highly-advanced proprietary Super All-Wheel Control (S-AWC) all-wheel drive technology, new clean-sheet aerodynamically-enhanced carbon-fiber bodywork and state-of-the-art high-capacity lithium-ion batteries.

The MiEV Evolution II was built for the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, a time trial event for automobiles and motorcycles held annually at Colorado Springs, Colorado. The incredible elevation change from the start line to the finish line (a climb of 4,720 feet) creates temperature, air pressure, weather and other atmospheric conditions that allows Mitsubishi Motors to gather important vehicle data in order to enhance the durability and reliability of its advanced 100 percent electric vehicles (EV), plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV) and conventional gas- or diesel-powered hybrid vehicles in the company's future vehicle development.

Feedback and data derived from last year's i-MiEV Evolution racing prototype and its outstanding all-wheel drive system is being used to develop the unique twin electric motor-based Super All-Wheel Control (S-AWC) system found on the Outlander PHEV - the first of its kind on a production crossover vehicle — when it arrives in Mitsubishi Motors dealerships in the US.

The Mitsubishi Motors EV racing team competed with a pair of highly advanced state-of-the-art 100 percent electric-powered vehicles in the 2013 Pikes Peak International Hill Climb event to not only increase the awareness and visibility of the EV but also to demonstrate the high level of technology engineered into each Mitsubishi Motors electric vehicle and its EV-related components and systems.

Mitsubishi Concept GR-HEV

The Mitsubishi Concept GR-HEV is a Sport Utility Truck (SUT) concept that delivers next-generation environmental and driving performance. It was developed by blending the best attributes of Mitsubishi Motors' lauded Triton production model pickup truck while providing the welcome features, comfort and interior spaciousness of a premium sedan or Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV).

From the C-pillar forward, the Mitsubishi Concept GR-HEV's sweeping exterior design looks like a handsome, aerodynamically-efficient next-generation crossover/SUV. Aft of the rear passenger compartment, the body morphs into a supplely-contoured yet highly-functional pickup truck.

Aesthetically appealing design elements including aluminum front air dams, LED headlights and LED rear combination taillights are both functional and luxurious, allowing this concept car to feel right at home whether it is being used for work at the construction site or for an opulently indulgent night on the town.

Ample, efficient power is provided by a diesel-hybrid system that makes use of a 2.5-liter clean-diesel engine and an electric motor/lithium-ion battery Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) system. What's more, Mitsubishi Motors' innovative Super All-Wheel Control (S-AWC) all-wheel drive system, accompanied by next-generation Super Select 4WD (SS4WD) that features four distinct driver-selected drive modes (2H, 4H, 4HL, 4LL), provides highly responsive torque and tractability on rough roads - or on no roads at all. Safety technologies include Active Cruise Control (ACC), Forward Collision Mitigation (FCM) and Lane Departure Warning (LDW).

Concept PX MiEV

"At the heart of the Concept PX-MiEV there are three power systems, one permanent magnet synchronous electric motor in the front, another in back, and the highly efficient MIVEC gasoline engine which can power the front wheels and also serve as a generator. Controlled and optimized by the remarkable MiEV Operating System, the engine, electric motors and batteries work together to maximize efficiency and deliver impressive range."

"Here's how it works: At slow and moderate speeds (for example, a morning commute in the city), the Mitsubishi Plug-in Hybrid System operates in all-electric EV Mode. Here the Concept PX-MiEV becomes a front-wheel-drive vehicle, powered by its battery pack and the front electric motor. In short, it offers fun-to-drive power with zero tailpipe emissions. Furthermore, the Concept PX-MiEV monitors road conditions and adapts to them. So if it's raining, or if the road is slick with snow, electric power is automatically provided to the rear motor, supplementing the front-wheel-drive operation and effectively turning the car into an electric four-wheel-drive vehicle."

"Mitsubishi Concept-RA is powered by a new high-output, low-emission 2.2-liter 4-cylinder DOHC 16-valve turbo diesel engine. This engine features the Mitsubishi innovative Valve timing Electronic Control (MIVEC) system valvetrain that offers continuously-variable valve-timing control. The new diesel engine is equipped with piezoelectric injector common-rail direct fuel injection that allows a lower compression ratio and a VD (Variable Diffuser)/VG (Variable Geometry) turbocharger. The 2.2-liter engine delivers a maximum output of 201 hp and maximum torque of 310 ft.-lbs."

Mitsubishi Concept CA-MiEV

The Mitsubishi Concept CA-MiEV gives an indication of the direction Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (which launched the Mitsubishi i-MiEV, the world's first mass-produced electric vehicle) that the company believes electric vehicles (EVs) will be headed in the near future.

The Mitsubishi Concept CA-MiEV's supple yet vigorous exterior design races towards the future, expressing the advanced next-generation EV technologies embedded beneath its eye-catching sheet-metal.

Its headlight and rear taillight designs are based on the faceted shape of cut diamonds, creating a deep and sophisticated design aesthetic. This facet-cut theme is carried over to the design of this concept car's wheels as well.

Its highly-efficient next-generation EV powertrain includes lightweight components in an integrated electric motor, inverter and charger module that help to reduce power losses. It also includes magnetic resonance wireless lithium-ion battery recharging. Paired with its 28 kWh main drive lithium-ion battery pack, streamlined aerodynamics and an exhaustive reduction in body weight, this EV concept has a driving range of approximately 185 miles (300 km).

Advanced safety technologies including Lane Departure Warning (LD W), Active Cruise Control (ACC) and Forward Collision Mitigation (FCM) have also been incorporated into this handsome futuristic EV, along with convenient features like remote-controlled air-conditioning and battery recharging.
